A bit about Asha Wilson

Asha is an accomplished illustrator, designer and community arts practitioner based in South East London. Their visual practice revolves around abstract character concepts and perspectives with a focus on representing queer individuals; illustrative type; comedic and story-centric work alongside slice-of-life style pieces that celebrate the joy and absurdity of the everyday.

As well as developing skills in a range of illustration practices, Asha is a capable and adaptable designer, capable of creating copy and design-based responses as well as utilising a combination of illustration and design approaches; shown in her range of illustrative type responses throughout multiple briefs. Asha is currently working as a freelance designer for the creative agency Tin Can Collective, working mostly with charities and community-centric organisations.

In Asha’a work as a community arts practitioner, they run workshops with a broad range of community groups using narrative storytelling tools to help people communicate and understand their own lived experiences.

Alongside freelancing as an illustrator and designer, Asha is studying for their Master’s Degree in Community Arts and Applied Anthropology at Goldsmiths to further develop their approach towards community arts facilitation and deepen their understanding and perspective of Community Development.
